MY WEEK IN FOOD

We’re finally getting some cold weather here in California (or at least chilly by our standards), which calls for comfort food, starting with this homey  Hungarian Mushroom Goulash from Sarah Copeland’s vegetarian cookbook Feast. The mushrooms did such a fine job in their meaty role, we didn’t even miss the beef. Traveling the  comfort food globe […]

MY WEEK IN FOOD

I do believe I’m a little behind here on My Week in Food, so let’s catch up starting with breakast. Made this pretty little meal for a food writer  friend who stopped by to talk shop. Took advantage of all my favorite fall fruits in a diced salad of persimmon, pomegranate, pears, and tangerines, with […]

MY WEEK IN FOOD

What we cooked this week was dictated largely by the fact that we harvested the remains of the garden for the season, starting with these French red pumpkins, which I believe are bound for a soup pot. I have a few sugar pie pumkins too, which I’ll roast for pie like this. or this    There […]

MY WEEK IN FOOD

Started the week by picking up these mini eggplants at the farmers’ market, each of which was about the size of an apple. I almost didn’t want to cook them, they were so cute. Alas, I did anyway, by cutting them in half and roasting them in a 375 degree oven until nearly done. I then […]

MY WEEK IN FOOD (plus a giveaway)

Started the week off with “Ceviche Saturday”…a simple meal paired with tortilla chips and guac. If you’ve never made ceviche, DO. No recipe required. Cut raw white fish, shrimp,  scallops, calamari, etc.  into bite-size pieces, stir in finely chopped cilantro and jalapeno, then add enough fresh lime juice to completely submerge the seafood. Four or more hours […]

MY WEEK IN FOOD

After a few weeks of stumbling around for equilibrium, we’re starting to get into the school lunch groove. I find dips help when it comes to making veggies more enticing. Pulled together a homemade ranch number, which you’ll find both here and in my cookbook. Making produce pretty also helps. Here I went a little Orange is the New Black […]

MY SUMMER IN FOOD

The passing of Labor Day marks, for me, the official close of summer. As of today, all three of my kids are back in school and I’m back at work. Having skipped over more than a month of “My Week in Food” I thought I’d catch you up on what the latter part of the season looked like in […]

MY WEEK IN FOOD

Having kids home for the summer is seriously cutting into my writing time, which is why several weeks rolled right on by without My Week in Food.  In the event of another dry spell, you can always catch what I’m up to on Instagram. For now, let’s talk about 4th of July, which suddenly seems forever-ago. […]

MY WEEK IN FOOD

The Week in Food got off to an auspicious start when dozens and dozens of perfectly ripe Blenheim apricots landed on my doorstep from an apricot farmer in thanks for a favor. Realizing how such favors can pay off, I’m officially pimping myself out to support/aid/help any and all summer fruit farmers. Pass it on. […]

MY WEEK IN FOOD

Started the week off with a toast party in honor of the dad in the house. Mr. Mom’s Kitchen was gifted a shiny new toaster for Father’s Day, so we felt obliged to break it in. Not exactly a new surfboard, but it does make some killer toast. Breakfast for a crowd the following morning involved […]
