Me and My Week in Food were off on a family vacation for a couple of weeks. We’re back to our regularly scheduled postings, with a few photos snapped during our journey.
We were treated to a lazy couple of days at my friend Sarah’s cottage in the countryside. Nothing like a summer supper outdoors under a generous tree.
I fell hard for her collection of white china and wondered how I could justify replacing every note of color in my kitchen cabinets once I got home. Luckily, that expensive urge has passed.Speaking of color, eyed this enormous tower of macaroons at a beautiful cafe and had to stop in for a treat.We were spoiled rotten by the company and cooking of our friends Mike and Madeleine who made this Middle Eastern-inspired lunch complete with handmade flatbread.
Spied these darling jelly spoons at breakfast one morning, which I was tempted to quietly slip into my travel tote. Loved this Bloody Mary bar cart arranged with all the fixings. I’d knock that off in a heart beat for a brunch at home…if only I had a bar cart…or ever made bloody Marys…or was hosting a brunch.
Found this pasta — heavy with seafood, light on the spaghetti, with a supremely slurpable sauce — to be so good I had it three times. Must Make At Home.
Thought this battered sign, eyed in a little shop, pretty much summed up my cooking duties on holiday. A little break from the kitchen was a welcome treat.But after many meals on the road, I was happy to be at the stove again, starting with this colorful salad: slice and grill 3 zucchini. Pull zucchini off the grill and layer on a large plate with 2 to 3 sliced tomatoes, 8 ounces sliced Mozzarella, 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes. Season with salt, shower with 1/4 cup chopped basil, drizzed with olive oil and balsamic.
