My Week in Food

Got a little carried away at Anthropologie. Have you puttered in their housewares section? Trouble. Treated myself to these pretty kitchen things, which I’m sure will be popping up in upcoming posts.
Got word that my sister Annie had her baby, so high-tailed it cross country to meet my brand new niece. First, we had to celebrate. Baby girls must be toasted with pink champagne.

Then, I got cooking, packing the freezer with a hearty lamb stew, a lentil curry soup, and veggie enchiladas. An emergency batch of whole wheat brown butter chocolate chip cookies was also in order. Some for the freezer

And the rest served with tea for friends dropping by to get a sneak peek at the new addition.

Hated to leave that baby, but had a nutrition conference to attend. Went to a breakfast hosted by the Hass avocado folks and fell hard for this centerpiece. Worth knocking off, no?

Happy to be home again, but trying to restore my equilibrium. This Triple Almond Peach Smoothie was a good start: 2/3 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1 tablespoon almond butter, 8 almonds, 1 small frozen banana, 4 frozen peach slices, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract. Whirl in a blender. Yum.

What have you been up to in the kitchen this week. I want to know. Really.

Yum is right~~~the photos are fun and it’s amazing that they are taken with your I Phone. All you are missing is a photo of beautiful little Louisa!

I figured I’d probably have to leave it up to her mom to give the baby her Internet debut

How did they get the avocados to balance? It’s so beautiful, but I would have been so tempted to harvest those bad boys right into my purse!

If I hadn’t been getting on a plane that day I might well have snatched those avocados.

Thanks Leslie. I used a recipe from Cooking Light but substituted 2 cups of whole wheat pastry flour for the all-purpose/whole wheat flour in the recipe. Here’s the link: http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/butter-chocolate-chip-cookies-50400000123564/

I’ll be honest…we are living on Juicebox Applesauce! I’ve tried it with all different kinds of apples, sometimes half of one variety and half of another. I’ve added all different kinds of toasted nuts and seeds on top to see which is best. Walnuts and pumpkin seeds win…and they are so nutritious!

I also made this fun wrap for my daughter this week. I mixed a bunch of peanut butter, pumpkin puree and whipped cream cheese together really well and spread the concoction on whole grain tortillas and cut them into cute little pinwheels. I guess I mixed the pb&j pinwheel recipe from Weelicious and the pumpkin peanut butter sandwich you posted about from the nutrition conference. She unrolled every single one and licked all the pb mixture off and then gobbled up the strip of tortilla that remained. They were a hit! What should we call them…maybe “creamy pumpkin-nutters?” 🙂
