The Upside Of Downtime
Have we talked about burnt toast yet? And how, in my experience, it’s usually the mom of the house who eats the one slice that spent too long in the toaster, passing along the beautifully burnished ones to everyone else?
It’s what we do. And it’s not a bad thing. Except sometimes.
Sometimes there’s a serious need to take the better slice. There’s an upside to putting yourself first, which is why, a week from now, I’m taking a little time for myself — to nurture my intellect, my friendships, and my connections by hightailing it to Vermont for a unique gathering of fellow food writers, dietitians, and bloggers.
Called Blog Brulee (cute, right?), its mission is to “set fire to better blogs”. The group will hole up at Smuggler’s Notch outside of Burlington, where we’ll work on food styling and photography, hone our writing skills, and nerd out on blog terminology.
We will also eat really well, thanks to the sponsors who are underwriting this adventure. And I’d venture to guess they most definitely will NOT be serving us burnt toast.
How do you plan to nurture yourself this week?
Disclosure: My attendance at Blog Brûlée is underwritten, in part, by its sponsors. I also received a reduced registration as compensation for writing this post. All opinions are my own.
