Skillet S’mores

S'mores in a Pan Make in the Oven - Mom's Kitchen Handbook

Let’s be clear, there is nothing remotely healthful about this recipe. BUT, Skillet S’mores Dip is 100 percent fun, and there is a place for that in a healthful diet. It’s an idea that came from Rosie, who spotted it on Instagram and did up a pan on a cold winter night when sitting by a campfire was not in the cards. We all agreed it was a keeper for special occasions, most notably when we have company, since this is an easy dessert for a crowd. The first time we made it, our batch was bigger than our appetites so we reheated the leftover chocolatey goo, poured some Rice Krispies into the pan, gave it a good stir, pressed it into a block, and cut it into chewy squares.

Oven S'mores

Skillet S'mores Dip

This is a special-occasion treat that is equal part s'mores and chocolate fondue. It makes a fun dessert for a party, and can be scaled up (or down) depending on how many are seated at your table.
Servings 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 to 2 teaspoons butter
  • 1/2 to 2/3 cup bittersweet chocolate chips
  • 10 to 12 marshmallows , cut in half crosswise
  • Graham crackers for dipping

Instructions

  1. Set a rack in the upper third of the oven. Put a small, oven-safe skillet or baking pan (7 or 8-inch) into the oven and preheat to 450 degrees.
  2. Once the skillet is hot, remove from the oven and add the butter. Swirl it around so it coats the bottom of the pan.
  3. Scatter the chocolate chips over the bottom of the pan. They should cover the entire surface, so adjust the amount depending on the size of pan.
  4. Top the chocolate with the marshmallows, cut side down (they should cover the surface of the pan).
  5. Put the pan back into the oven and cook until the marshmallows are golden brown.
  6. Serve immediately with graham crackers for dipping.
